Description
With the Germany Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium), the German government aims to support talented and high-achieving students. In fact, almost as many students are supported by the Germany Scholarship as by the 13 Organisations for the Promotion of gifted Students (Internal link opens in the same window:Begabtenförderungswerke) combined. In contrast to the scholarships awarded by the organisations for the promotion of gifted students, the Germany Scholarship is awarded by the universities. They can award places for the Germany Scholarship according to a fixed funding quota, which means that the number of scholarships is limited.
Benefits
The Germany Scholarship is usually only awarded for one year, which is why you have to reapply for funding after one year. Sponsors can also tie a specific subject to their funding, which means that some of the Germany Scholarship scholarships are not open to all students.
The Germany Scholarship provides €300 per month in financial support, which is independent of income. Half of this, i.e. €150, is provided by the federal government. The remaining €150 are provided by private sponsors such as companies, private individuals or foundations. These can voluntarily supplement the financial support with additional offers such as further training or information events. Another advantage is that the Germany Scholarship can also be received in addition to BAföG.
Eligibility
The Germany Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium) supports students of all nationalities who have demonstrated outstanding performance in their studies. You should meet the following criteria to have a good chance of receiving a scholarship:
- Special achievements and successes at school/university.
- Assumption of responsibility in the form of social commitment.
