Overview
Dalhousie University ’s professional Architecture programme is a compact programme that recognizes a student's previous undergraduate studies and leads to a master's degree. The programme is fully accredited, and the integration of academic and professional experience is highly valued in the architectural field. Dalhousie’s School of Architecture enjoys an international reputation, with graduates working in many places around the world.
You will select courses in design, humanities, and technology, plus electives (including the School's famous Free Lab) that support your individual interests. The Master of Architecture programme consists of seven core courses, four electives, and an eight-month co-op work term that provides students with income and opportunities to live and work in Canada or abroad.
Careers
After receiving a professional architecture degree, a MArch graduate typically works in an architectural office and may do professional examinations two years later to become a registered architect. Most of our MArch graduates pursue careers in architectural practice.Possible careers include:
- Sole proprietorships in a home office
- Small- and medium-sized architectural firms
- Corporations with branches around the world
- Government and public institutions
Accreditation
- The Canadian Architectural Certification Board assesses Canadian architecture programmes to ensure they meet the educational standards for the eventual licensure of registered architects. Dalhousie's Master of Architecture programme is fully accredited by the CACB until 2028.
