Objectives of the Spatial Planning programme at Utrecht University
You will be trained in:
- analysing spatial problems with dedicated spatial research methods;
- applying innovative knowledge and theories to come up with appropriate solutions;
- evaluating and prioritising alternative spatial development options;
- conceptualise governance and management of cities.
Careers
The master Spatial Planning prepares you for a job as an independent and internationally recognized spatial planner in the sphere of policy-, project- and process management, or research.
You will be able to work in the Netherlands or abroad from the local up to the European levels. With a broad perspective and a keen eye for various cultural and institutional contexts, planners are widely employed in a range of organisations.

General requirements
You are eligible for the Master’s programme Spatial Planning provided you fulfil the following admission requirements:
- An (inter)national academic Bachelor degree in Human Geography and Planning or a related program. Students should have demonstrable knowledge of issues related to Spatial Planning;
Knowledge of, and experience with, both quantitative and qualitative methods for research in Social Sciences;
- In principle, students with a Bachelor’s degree from a university must have a GPA of at least 2.4 (on a scale of 1-4) or at least 6.5 under the Dutch system to qualify for admission.
