Overview

The Classics MA course from Queen's University multi-disciplinary in approach, Classics involves the studies of history, literature, archaeology, religion, mythology, drama and philosophy, in addition to the ancient languages of Greek and Latin.

Today our understanding of Greek and Roman culture is further enhanced by the latest digital techniques that increasingly pervade studies in archaeology, epigraphy, papyrology, and ancient science and medicine.

The Classics and Archaeology department at Queen’s has the honour of being one of the longest-running university departments in the country.

The graduate program is small, we are able to provide our students with individual attention and support. Our students consistently win both internal and external awards and fellowships.

The faculty members have expertise in Greek and Roman archaeology, history, language and literature, so your research opportunities are vast and varied. You will also have multiple opportunities to get hands-on archaeological experience by taking part in faculty-supervised digs around the Mediterranean world.

General requirements

For international students, if required, a TOEFL total score of at least 550 (paper-based) or TOEFL iBT minimum scores of: writing (24/30); speaking (22/30); reading (22/30); listening (20/30), for a total of 88/120. Applicants must have the minimum score in each test as well as the minimum overall score.

Normally a 4-year bachelor degree in Classics (or equivalent, e.g. History) with first-class or high second-class (B+) standing
