Overview
The unique selling point of the Master's Program in European Global Studies, which has only been offered in this form at the University of Basel so far, lies in the shift from a pure comparison of countries to an analysis of social, political, legal and economic networks within and outside of Europe.
In the first two semesters, students deal with theories and methods of social, legal and economic sciences, which make Europe as a transnational and cultural concept analytically tangible. Depending on their previous education, they expand their existing knowledge and acquire knowledge in the subject areas that are new to them. In addition, they are already dealing with interdisciplinary issues in the field of Europeanization and globalization.
In the advanced modules of the second year of study, students set their own focus of interest and develop their personal study profile.
Course structure
The master's is the second degree after the bachelor's degree and comprises a total of 120 credit points (CP). The master’s course in European Global Studies is a so-called mono course without additional subjects, which is studied for 120 credits. One ECTS credit point corresponds to approximately 30 hours of work.
Career opportunities
Those who complete the master's degree in European Global Studies have sound methodological and theoretical knowledge in social sciences, law and economics. At the same time, the program conveys the skills to critically question established thought patterns and to act across professional boundaries.
