Why to study

After the Creative Writing course work at the University of Regina in both academic and creative writing seminars, students write a thesis in the genre of their choice (poetry, fiction, or creative non-fiction). Award-winning faculty offer small classes, personal supervision and professional training. A extra benefit to studying creative writing at the University of Regina is that students can participate in a vibrant local writing community that includes numerous reading series and programs offered by the Saskatchewan Writers Guild, the oldest and most established writers' guild in Canada.

The course M.A. (ten courses) provides an opportunity to achieve a breadth of knowledge in many areas of English literature.

The thesis M.A. (five courses plus thesis—either academic or creative writing) provides an opportunity to do in-depth research, and an extended piece of writing, on one area of English literature.

General requirements

A graduating average of at least 75 per cent from a four-year baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) is required for admission to all programs except for English, History, Mathematics and Statistics and the Master of Public Adminsitration where the required average is 75 per cent.
Applicants with a marginally lower four year average may be accepted if their performance in the last two complete years is significantly higher (75 per cent or more).
Applicants to the MA in Creative Writing and English are reminded to submit a writing sample and a portfolio of creative material with their application package.
