Overview
Are you an analytical thinker who enjoys working on intelligent computer systems? Would you like to know more about topics such as data mining, machine learning and information retrieval? If so, the master in Artificial Intelligence from Maastricht University is the right choice for you. The programme is very flexible, which means you can tailor it to your interests and ambitions. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on real-life cases provided by different organisations, giving you all the preparation you need to pursue a career as an artificial intelligence specialist at a research institute or company.
We offer a specialisation in Quantum Computing. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science for Decision Making will be the only master’s programmes in these fields that offer this particular specialisation in the Netherlands.
Your Future
- After you've graduated, you'll be able to develop computational solutions to problems and provide up-to-date scientific and technological advice. These skills can be applied to problems in a wide variety of settings. You could, for example, end up in a research position at a university, research institute or a research-oriented company. But the programme also provides you with a good basis for a career in management or consultancy.
Career paths
Business sector
Graduates with a background in Artificial Intelligence are great assets to companies that process large amounts of data. They work as software developers, consultants or managers. Others have started their own company where they, for example, provide advice on the optimisation of business processes.
University or research centre
Some Artificial Intelligence graduates continue on to a career in science because they would like to further expand their knowledge of topics such as information management or innovative learning. They pursue PhDs and become researchers and/or instructors in their area of expertise. This means that they share their knowledge, publish scientific research, collaborate with (international) partners and secure research funding.
Career prospects
Graduates of the Artificial Intelligence master’s programme have gone on to work in:
- large multinationals like Philips, Google, Shell, Vodafone and Getronics where they work as software developers or data scientists
- their own company in, for example video games, alone or together with other students
- PhD positions at a university or research centre
