Overview
Applied Research At The Intersection Of Data And Medicine
The gained knowledge and skills form a solid basis for health research and disease control programs, including application in low and lower-middle income countries. This scientific discipline is increasingly in demand in research, industry and policymaking.
The Epidemiology Postgraduate programme at Utrecht University is accessible and highly suitable for applicants who already have a medical or biomedical Master’s degree, such as physicians, veterinarians and pharmacists. Note that this postgraduate programme is not state funded and that it is not eligible for study financing from the Dutch student grant and loans systems.
Career Prospects
After graduation, students obtain an MSc degree in Biomedical Sciences, Epidemiology (Postgraduate), which prepares them for a subsequent PhD programme or a career as an epidemiologist in settings such as academia, privately funded and governmental public health organisations, and human or veterinary medicine or industry, including pharmaceutical development.
Epidemiologists may enter positions in local, regional, and state health agencies where they address public health issues and are involved in research on the distribution and determinants of disease and disabilities. They can also obtain positions in health sciences research programmes in hospitals, academic medical centres or pharmaceutical companies.
