Overview
The Marriage and Family Therapy programme at the University of Winnipeg provides students with a comprehensive clinical education rooted in systemic and relational theoretical frameworks. This Master’s degree is specifically designed for professionals seeking to specialise in relationship therapy or individuals pursuing a career change into the mental health sector.
The curriculum is structured as a non-thesis track, prioritising practical application and clinical mastery over traditional research. Students must complete a total of 63 credit hours, which includes a significant component of supervised practicum work to meet professional standards. This ensures that every graduate possesses the hands-on experience necessary for effective practice.
Why Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Winnipeg?
The University of Winnipeg offers a unique clinical environment through the Aurora Family Therapy Centre, which serves as the primary practicum site located directly on campus. This facility allows students to engage with diverse client populations while remaining integrated within the academic community. The institution also maintains strong partnerships with various agencies across the region.
The teaching approach is highly integrative, culminating in a Graduate Seminar during the final year of study. This capstone experience requires students to research and articulate their own integrated theory of therapy, supported by evidence from their client work. This process ensures that graduates leave with a clearly defined professional identity and a robust theoretical foundation.

Programme Structure
- The Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (MMFT) is designed for those who want a quality professional education/training in this field.
