Overview
You gain a good working knowledge of the programme’s central issues such as the biology of stress and its role in animal welfare, the effects of domestication on animal behaviour, the physiology of behaviour, and conservation biology.
Key features
The Applied Ethology and Animal Biology programme offered by the Linköping University is taught in collaboration with Kolmården Wildlife Park, one of the largest and most renowned zoos in Sweden. Several teaching sessions are held at the zoo where you acquire first-hand knowledge from experienced zoo staff.
Career opportunities
After having completed the programme, you will be well-acquainted with the theoretical background of animal behaviour and biology. You will have a deep understanding of animal welfare and conservation, and learn how to plan, implement and present a research project within the scientific field of the programme. You may find employment as an animal welfare inspector, wildlife conservationist, or advisor for zoos or private businesses. Many of our alumni work with governmental and international animal or environmental agencies. You will also be qualified to pursue doctoral studies.

General requirements
- Bachelor's degree with a major in the field of biology. The Bachelor's degree (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen) shall be from an internationally recognised university.
- 5 ECTS credits in the field of physiology.
- English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (English 6/B). This is normally attested by means of an internationally recognised test.
