Overview

The Master's specialisation in Cities, Water and Climate Change discusses the relationship between city planning and development, climate mitigation and adaptation. Cities, because of high levels of energy consumption and mobility, are the main contributors to climate change. At the same time, cities, because of their population density, are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. This Master's specialisation prepares students for working on the nexus between urban planning, water and environmental management.

You will develop a deep understanding of the governance of water and climate issues in urban areas, which makes you well suited for a job position such as:

Policy advisor at a water authority
Consultant on climate proofing cities
Policy maker for spatial adaptation at a province or municipality

You are admissible if you have a completed:
A Bachelor’s degree from a research university in a Spatially-oriented discipline, such as: Spatial Planning, Human Geography or Environment Studies.
Your degree must be equivalent to a Dutch Research University diploma. This will be evaluated once you complete your formal application.
Students must also be fluent in both written and spoken English. This requirement has been satisfied when the student meets one of the following conditions:
Has successfully completed a three-year Bachelor's programme at a Dutch university.
Has successfully completed an English-taught Bachelor's programme in one of the following countries: EU/EEA countries, Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Has successfully completed a Master's programme from a Dutch university of applied sciences (HBO)
