Overview
The four-semester master’s course in Religion, Economics and Politics is carried out as a joint degree master’s course at the University of Basel, Lucerne and Zurich.
The course begins in autumn with a cross-location introductory semester program at one of the three universities. However, enrollments are also possible in the spring semester. As part of the master’s course, you will attend events at all locations and benefit from the competence and research-oriented orientation of several universities.
Course structure
The master’s degree comprises a total of 120 credit points (CP). The Master’s degree in Religion, Economics and Politics is a so-called mono degree without any other subjects. Special subject areas can be deepened in the sense of an individual profile formation. One credit point (KP) ECTS corresponds to 30 working hours.

Graduates of the Master's Religion-Economics-Politics are enabled go understand the connection between religion, economics and politics in an analytic way. They are thus equipped to pick up the challenges of a global economy, complex politics and a growing religious and cultural pluralism and to actively develop solutions. The acquired competence enables to work in economy, consulting and management, international organizations, NGOs, state institutions, media, parties, associations, as well as ecclesial and other religious organizations.The alumni of the Master's degree Religion-Economics-Politics work in the following areas:
- journalism (print, radio, television, new media, agencies)
- local government and administration (departments of integration, diversity management and educationchurches, religious communities and organizations
- NGOs (development aid)
- parties and associations
- political, state and administrative areas on a national level
- field offices in companies (public relations, Corporate Social Responsibility)
- Teaching and Research at Universities and research institutions.

Courses included:- The focus of teaching and research at the University of Basel is on religion and economics. These include, for example, the study of the influence of religion on economic development, the role of religion in business ethics and the application of economic models to religion. Special subject areas can be deepened in the sense of an individual profile formation.

A Bachelor's (or an equivalent) degree in religious studies, theology, political or economic sciences is required. Graduates in other fields can be admitted on the basis of individual clarifications.
