Key Features
The Department, consisting of 15 full-time faculty members who are equipped with the world-class educational and research capabilities, is devoted to the research and education of the world’s best level in various areas, including aerodynamics, propulsion and combustion, guidance, navigation and control (GNC), structure, and material applications.
The graduates from the Aerospace Engineering program from Seoul National University are playing the essential roles in the aerospace field of Korea, as they are working in various institutions, including the government, government-funded research institutes, and private companies.
Today the School comprises 45 regular faculty and 10 emeriti faculty, 20 research faculty, 1300 undergraduate students, and 600 graduate students. A full range of courses is offered leading to Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering degrees.
Faculty research covers the entire spectrum of mechanical and aerospace engineering, including research with strong interdisciplinary links to materials science, semi-conductor processing, computer and information engineering, and technology management.
The School directly oversees the management and operation of four research centers: the Institute for Advanced Machinery and Design, the Engineering Research Center for Micro-Thermal Systems, the Institute for Next-Generation Automotive Technology, the Aircraft Technology Research Center, and the Institute for Advanced Aerospace Technology. National Creative Research Initiative Centers for Nano-Particle Control, Turbulence and Flow Control, and Multiscale Design have also been established within the School.

- Admission decisions are based on a number of factors, including Grade Point Average (GPA), Study Plans, Personal Statements, Letters of Recommendation, as well as other achievement records and/or descriptions of specific qualifications. In reviewing applications, the admissions committee considers the level of studies completed, quality of achievement, characteristics of institution attended, appropriateness of goals, and suitability of preparation for the proposed program of studies. Proficiency in Korean and other languages is also taken into consideration. Depending on the policy of the college or department to which the applicant is applying, interviews and examinations may also be required. Applicants will be notified of interviews when deemed necessary.
