Computational Science and Technology Seoul National University

Overview

This Computational Science and Technology program of Computational Science and Technology from Seoul National University is an educational program to foster next-generational outstanding high-quality human resources and is administered by professors, related to computational science, of colleges and institutes in SNU with their computer facilities as adjunct professors. 

Especially, the supercomputer at university computer center should be used more seriously with the support of the chief of the center. Students should be able to study for M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in the college (or in the institute) that your supervisor is affiliated to, even if they have independent research places.

Basic rules for subject completion and degree acquisition are set as below.

• Obtaining total 24 credits including at least 2 major subjects offered by IPCST completes the program for master degree.

• Credits from subjects offered by IPCST and your supervisor affiliated college or permitted by your supervisor are recognized.

• Qualification test and other conditions to acquire a degree follow the regulations of SNU.

Career

As utilization of high-performance scientific computing in major US national laboratories such as Argonne National Lab, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, Los Alamos National Lab, Brookhaven National Lab, and Oak Ridge National Lab, and company laboratories of USA and Europe meets academic, military and commercial purposes to lead education of human resources for organized development of computational science in western universities, Korea should produce such human resources through IPCST. 

Scientific computing experts trained by this program will go every place in society, where advanced scientific computing is necessary, such as domestic or overseas companies, their institutes, institutes related to national defense or resources, and meteorological administration. Some people experienced diversely in industries or institutes will come back to the academic circle to accelerate fusion of related disciplines.
