Overview

The Human Rights and Democratisation MA course from University of Hamburg combines theoretical and practical approaches to issues in the fields of human rights and democratization. Teaching takes the form of lectures, workshops, tutorials, methodological and practical courses, and complementary seminars. Graduates learn to consider political, social, and economic aspects from different perspectives.

The European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EUIC), located in Venice, is responsible for organizing the program, which is co-financed by the European Commission. Students spend their first semester in Venice and can then opt to spend the second in Hamburg. Universität Hamburg has been involved in the program since it was first launched in 1997 through the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy (IFSH) and hosts up to three students every year.
