Specializations
The Industrial Ecology program at ITMO University has the following specialisations:
Environmental Engineering (in Russian)
Students will explore the challenges of industrial ecology in a comprehensive and systematic way, considering the latest developments in energy and resource efficiency of production facilities, the development of environmental responsibility within companies and the introduction of sustainable production and consumption.
Cleaner Production (in Russian and English);
During the studies, students will gain professional competencies necessary to implement the principles of industrial symbiosis and cleaner production, as well as develop environmental management systems to prevent environmental pollution and provide for sustainable consumption of energy and other resources, minimizing negative impacts on the environment.
Environmental Design (in Russian and English)
Students will learn how to develop, produce, and certify ecologically safe products. Ecological design is the ability to manage all the stages of a product's life cycle to minimize negative environmental impacts, including waste The program will help students master the methods of environmental and health impact assessment of the entire production chain – from extraction of raw materials to production of end products, its usage and waste treatment.
Integrated Management (in Russian and English);
The key focus of the program lies in the development, implementation and audit of management systems in accordance with ISO standards in environmental and energy management, occupational safety and health management, quality management, as well as tools and methods that allow companies to integrate these systems in the most resource-efficient way.
Urban Ecology (in Russian)
The specialization aims to tackle practical challenges in the field of sustainable urban development. During the program, students get knowledge and skills necessary for research and design activities in the field of municipal and construction waste management, green building, landscape design, the application of phytotechnology and environmental monitoring for urban environmental protection, and development of urban and industrial symbiosis.
