Overview
The herbal industry offers a unique and strategic investment opportunity that resulted in its rapid growth worldwide. Thus, Institute of Bioproduct Development (IBD) is offering Master of Science (Herbal Technology) programme, a taught course modular-based master level programme.
Being the only programme of its kind in the world, this programme is anticipated to contribute significantly to the development of relevant human capital that will spur the growth of herbal industry in Malaysia, and the world.
At the end of theHerbal Technology programme from University Teknologi Malaysia, graduates are able to analyze critically, plan, solve complex problems associated with herbal science and technology and related fields and design plant-wide processes including unit operations leading to a professional qualification that will serve the herbal or phytochemical industry. The graduates will also acquire strategic knowledge on “seed to shelf” concept at the herbal business value chain.
Objectives
- PEO1 – Become herbal industry experts who will be able contribute to national development
- PEO2 – Become herbal technology experts who are creative, innovative and able to adapt in society.
- PEO3 – Be able to professionally contribute towards the environment’s well-being and sustainable development.
- PEO4 – Have the ability to conduct research to add value to existing products.

General requirements
- Candidate must hold a Bachelor Degree in any field of engineering, science or technology with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.0/4.0 or equivalent from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other Institutions of Higher Learning recognized by the Senate. In the case where CGPA is less than 3.0, a minimum of 1 year working experience is needed.
- Candidate with other academic background Degree from Institutions of Higher Learning recognized by the Senate with CGPA of 3.0/4.0 must have at least 5 years minimum working experience in the relevant field and must pass 2 prerequisite courses that will be determined by the Faculty. All prerequisite courses must be registered as HW
