Overview
During the Applied Gerontology degree from Universidade de Aveiro you will:
- - Develop and apply knowledge in professional practice and research in Gerontology;
- - Develop knowledge and skills to facilitate interdisciplinary team work and institutional partnerships;
- - Develop knowledge and skills to implement interventions aiming to promote active ageing from a life course perspective and, particularly, in advanced age;
Specific Objectives Related to the Sustainable Development Goals:
- Prepare professionals to enhance psychological well-being, manage chronic diseases, and reduce preventable deaths among older adults, both in community settings and healthcare.
- Promote lifelong learning opportunities for older adults, addressing educational inequalities and enhancing literacy.
- Foster awareness and skills to combat gender inequality, promote sexual rights, and encourage gender participation.
- Equip professionals to challenge and reduce ageism in society.
- Encourage citizen participation, particularly among older adults, in creating age-friendly environments.
- Promote social justice and the development of effective institutions, ensuring that all citizens, especially older adults, have a voice in decisions that affect their lives.
This course aims to empower graduates to make meaningful contributions to the field of aging, enhancing the quality of life for older adults and fostering inclusive, supportive communities.
