Overview
Brief profile
New insights in science, business, administration, and technology today arise almost exclusively from large and complex datasets. The ability to competently process such data and a solid academic education in this field are highly sought after in the job market. The proper handling of patient or customer data, stock prices and returns, as well as weather or climate information, is well-paid and increasingly in demand.
The two-year Master's program in Data Science from TU Dortmund University builds upon the Bachelor's program of the same name and can be started in either the winter or summer semester. It is a joint project of the Faculties of Statistics, Computer Science, and Mathematics, under the leadership of the Faculty of Statistics.
Since the scope of work and research in this field is constantly and rapidly changing, the program offers up-to-date training in both in-depth statistical and mathematical theory as well as current methods and new findings. Therefore, graduates are qualified for scientific work, can critically evaluate scientific findings, and apply them responsibly.
Skills and knowledge
Graduates of a Bachelor's degree program in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields may be admitted to this Master's program (possibly under certain conditions). The previously completed Bachelor's degree must have been completed with a grade of at least "good" (minimum 2.7).
Occupational and professional fields
Graduates of the Master's program are in high demand by the business world in various sectors (including pharmaceutical research, banking, insurance, software development, private and public research institutes, market research and management consulting), especially for the independent and self-reliant handling of projects with large amounts of data.
