Overview
The Master’s in Law and Economics of the Sea – Ocean Governance at Universidade Nova de Lisboa is an interdisciplinary, unique and innovative programme dedicated to the study of issues related to the governance of the sea.
Distinguished as the best in the world, according to Eduniversal’s international ranking, in Maritime Management, from 2023/24 brings together NOVA School of Law and Nova School of Business and Economics , corresponding to the evolution of the NOVA School of Law Master’s degree started in 2015.
In this new configuration, it reinforces its interdisciplinary and international vocation, aware that at sea lie some of the greatest challenges and opportunities on the planet for sustainable development.
NOVA School of Law is the sole Portuguese institution forming part of the UN and Nippon Foundation of Japan, with a program of study devoted to the Law of the Sea.
It is engaged in supporting students for both public and private entities, as well as in research at some of the most important international institutions on maritime issues.
Goals
The Law and Economics of the Sea – Ocean Governance course at Universidade Nova de Lisboa specialized training paths on the sea via a multidisciplinary and integrated approach committed to sustainable development. It offers a Post-Graduate Certificate (1st phase) while simultaneously generating the conditions to continue studies towards the completion of our Master’s degree in Law and Economy of the Sea (2nd phase).

- Holders of a bachelor’s degree certificate from a higher education institution in countries that subscribe to the Bologna Declaration and others considered to be similar, taking into account the respective curricular structure, with mention of the final average.*
- Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that is recognised as satisfying the objectives of the degree of licenciado by the competent scientific body of NOVA School of Law, with a mention of the final average.*
- *Failure to prove the final classification of the Academic Degree in the terms mentioned above will result in the final classification of 10 points being awarded for the purposes of the application process
