Academics

Currently, there are more than 2,900 full-time students in SMSE; over 130 of these are postgraduates. The School has a master’s degree programme in Manufacturing Engineering, which aims to cultivate a sound knowledge of mechanical engineering and industrial design engineering in its students. Mechanical Engineering is also available as a secondary discipline in PhD subject areas at Southwest University of Science and Technology. Five undergraduate SMSE programmes exist as follows:Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation; Process Equipment and Control Engineering; Material Formation and Control Engineering; Industrial Engineering (a specialty subject available in Sichuan province); and Industrial Design. SMSE boasts the National Virtual and Experimental Teaching Centre of Building Material Production and Engineering and Equipment Manufacturing; the Key Laboratory for Testing the Technology involved in the Advanced Manufacturing Process, which is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Sichuan Province; and the Key Provincial Laboratory of Reverse Engineering (RE) and Rapid Prototyping (RP). Moreover, SMSE also offers one national and one provincial experimental subject specialties, aimed at nurturing excellent engineers.
