Overview
Aimed at people with a Bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than medicine, the Medicine program offered at the Tokyo Medical University it is designed to equip the student with the knowledge and basics required to pursue a career in independent research in the highly specialized field of medicine. Its goal is to nurture richly humane individuals dedicated to the development of medicine and its application in the community; individuals committed to contributing to the welfare of mankind in line with the founding spirit of this college, that of “Self-reliance and self-study”.
Educational Goals
- The ability to carry out research in line with the highest ethical standards.
- The ability to plan and interpret the results of such research in a logical fashion.
- The acquisition of a good understanding of life sciences as a whole together with the ability to quickly apply highly specialized knowledge to the current needs.
- The ability to contribute to the development of regional and global health, medicine, and welfare through medical research or highly specialized work in the medical field.
Programme Structure
- This program constitutes a well-balanced approach to providing the basic knowledge and skills and sense of medical ethics required to carry out research in the field of life sciences. As such, the focus is on providing classes, lectures, and practical training to small groups of students.
- Each student will be assigned to the department appropriate to their selected specialty at time of enrolment. Cutting-edge specialist knowledge and skills will be acquired through hands-on experience of research activities.
- Students will acquire the skills needed to give presentations and field questions at seminars and academic meetings both at TMU and other external venues. In addition, our staff will provide direct guidance on the preparation of papers for publication in academic journals.
