Overview
By integrating bench-to-bedside research and practice in translational medicine, the Program in Graduate Institute of Metabolism and Obesity Sciences (GIMOS) from Taipei Medical University program aims to train interdisciplinary specialists in community prevention and clinical intervention of obesity and metabolic diseases.
What you'll study
Required GIMOS course content prepares students to implement clinical interventions and community prevention for obesity and metabolic diseases. Required courses provide in-depth introductions to research methodology, dietary behavior, principles and practice of multiomics, and advanced topics in the biochemistry of obesity.
Core courses, taught through the College of Nutrition, allow students to follow specific interests in applied statistics, nutrition education, food inspection and analysis, international food legislation, and practical application of medicine and nutritional epidemiology.
Careers
GIMOS graduates generally follow one of three career paths: Nutrition and metabolic and weight control-related licensing, industry positions related to food and biotechnology, and further academics. Those who pursue medical licensing engage in weight loss/control education as weight loss and nutrition consultants. Other graduates take employment as R&D specialists with food-related biotechnology firms. Finally, students may continue in academia as research assistants or pursue further education at the Ph.D. level.
