Overview
These include civil, structural, building engineering, architectural, building and conservation science, built heritage, architectural and urban design, planning and construction management, and interdisciplinary themes, in which guidance and supervision can be offered, and subject to the availability of resources as determined by the Faculty Board.
You will typically follow a short-directed reading component, deliver a presentation related to the research, and embark on the preparation of a dissertation, based on work of an advanced or original nature that you will undertake.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Identify a research problem which you wish to explore.
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the theoretical perspective in your chosen area of study.
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the methods used in research and the conclusions derived.
- Identify the different types of research approaches as either quantitative or qualitative and their application to research.
- Recognise the importance of the literature review and its role in the overall research context.

Applicants must be in possession of:
- the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Built Environment Studies with at least Second Class (Honours) or
- a first cycle degree classified at least at Second Class (Honours) or Category II obtained from the University of Malta, or from any other higher education institution approved by Senate for this purpose in Architecture, Urban Design, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Conservation, Cultural Heritage Management, Built Heritage, Construction, Property Management, Built Environment, Environmental Design, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure or in any other area deemed relevant by the Faculty Board or
- a qualification deemed by Senate, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board, to be comparable to the qualifications listed in (a) or (b).
