The program Archaeology of the Ancient World (MAAAW as abbreviation for Master Archaeology of the Ancient World) offered at Freie Universität Berlin. introduces you to the past of a part of the world that has seen the most intense processes of transformation as well as the most abundant intercultural and inter-society contacts within the last ten thousand years. And for learning about - and in the end contributing to - our knowledge of this past you will get to know theoretical skills in how to treat texts and opinions as well as proficiency in handling artefacts and dealing with data. This program is offered at Freie Universität Berlin.

As a consecutive program MAAAW builds on knowledge about the past from the fields of archaelogy, history and cultural anthropology that have been acquired in the course of a bachelor program or through professional qualification.

Programme Structure

It brings together three disciplines:

Prehistory, the Archaeology of Near Eastern Asia and Classical Archaeology – to approach the Past of Northern Africa, Southwestern Asia and Europe via a multi-focus perspective.

General requirements

An above average degree on par with a Bachelor in History, Regional Studies, or a related field that includes equivalent historical or regional topics (minimum of 60 credits), which can be proven with a transcript of records. In all cases, at least 60 credits must be accredited from historical or regional courses.

The MA Global History is an English-language program. Therefore, all applicants to the program must prove that they have English skills at a C1 (CEFR) level or higher.
