Overview
Considering the ever-increasing availability of large data sets and the decisions based on them both in public authorities and in companies, the growing demand for well-trained graduates of economics is revealed.
Key features
The new degree programme takes this need into account. The methodologically comprehensive training enables graduates of the degree programme to take on demanding activities in research institutions, international organisations, authorities/ministries, companies and economic consultancy. The quantitative and application-oriented orientation of economics at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is the ideal basis for such a course of study, both from a content point of view and due to the many practical contacts that enable students to make connections to the professional world.
This degree program is a quantitative and research-oriented English-language degree program. In contrast to many other Master's degree programs in economics, it contains a compulsory area that raises both the theoretical and methodological training of students to a significantly higher level.
Innovative teaching concepts within the framework of the "Reading Courses" and the "Economics Seminars" underline the innovative character of the degree programme. The degree programme is aimed primarily at students who later want to work in research and research-related institutions.
Course Contents
The Economics programme at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf begins with internationally customary basic courses in the fields of microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics at Master's level. In many Master's degree programs, this is the mandatory scope of courses in economics. It is precisely at this point that the degree programme goes a significant step further and integrates advanced courses in economic theory and econometrics into the compulsory part of the programme (these include, for example, MV03 and MV08, but also MV09, MQV09 and MQV10). On the one hand, this gives students access to modern economic research and thus a rapid transition to a doctorate and, on the other hand, challenging, quantitative activities in professional practice against the background of big data and digitization and associated methods.
