Overview

The Masters in Computational Science at the University of Cape Town is designed to prepare students in the methodology needed to do research in chemistry, chemical biology, biophysics and chemical physics using computational science. These academic disciplines have a critical dependence on computer simulation and large-scale data analysis to understand observed phenomena and advance disciplinary knowledge.

Aims

Learn how to apply scripting, mathematical modelling and informatics to:

Chemistry

Chemical biology

Glycobiology

Genomics

Glycomics

Biophysics

Chemical physics

And gain research methodology competence through the investigation of a substantial problem in the domain sciences.

Outcomes

Perform research and complete a dissertation solving a modelling or informatics problem in the domain sciences. Produce scientific computer code using C++, Fortran and C, design computational models using Python or PERL, and apply or design analytics methods using R, SQL, MATLAB, or MAPLE.

Work on the frontier of computational science research.
