Overview
The Aix-Marseille University Master's degree in Chemistry, which is co-accredited with the Ecole Centrale de Marseille, aims, through 3 courses, to train professionals and expert chemists at bac+5 level, specialists in: 1) spectrometry and chemical analysis, 2) organic synthesis of molecules of interest (in fields as varied as catalysis, innovative materials, green chemistry and medicinal chemistry), 3) organic synthesis of molecules of interest (in fields as varied as catalysis, innovative materials, green chemistry and medicinal chemistry);dicinal), 3) the study of the interface with biology (Chemistry for Life) in order to solve complex problems and find innovative solutions in these different scientific disciplines.
The course is designed for students who wish to study the application of molecular biology to the production of biocatalysts.
The students of the master's degree will acquire both general skills in chemistry (semester 1), specific theoretical skills in their field of specialisation (semester 2) and a specialisation in the field of chemistry (semester 3);
The students will have a strong background in chemistry (semester 1), a strong theoretical background in their field of specialisation (semesters 2 and 4) and a strong experiential knowledge in this field where experience is essential. Students will thus have essential disciplinary skills for all types of chemists (in particular analytical methods, spectroscopies, experimental techniques and bibliographic research), and others more focused on the specific applications of each course.
This more specific teaching ranges from the application of molecular biology for the production of biocatalysts, spectroscopy and analysis to organic synthesis and green chemistry.
Career
The main fields of activity of the Master in Chemistry (as observed by the graduates) are research, development, analysis and quality control in chemical, petrochemical, biotechnological, pharmaceutical, agro-food or formulation industries, as well as higher education and academic research in university laboratories (through the development of new technologies);trochemical, biotechnological, pharmaceutical, agri-food, or formulation industries as well as higher education and academic research within university laboratories (through a thesis pursuit).
Graduates enter the workforce as managers (e.g. technical manager in basic research, technical manager in applied research, research engineer, project manager, R&D engineer, quality manager, or technical-commercial manager), or continue their studies with a PhD.
Among the companies in which our students have been recruited, we can cite the following examples:
- Pierre Fabre laboratory
- Servier laboratory
- Johnson & Johnson
- Apave, Eurofins
- Roche, Sanofi
- L'Oréal
Our students can also be recruited within public laboratories as study engineers.
