Course Details
The programme lasts for one year, classroom training is delivered in the English language, awards 60 learning CFU credits and aims the following learning outcomes to train qualified candidates and teach them the competencies necessary to be able to enter the job market in a competitive way, both nationally and internationally, through an innovative programme of advanced training to acquire multidisciplinary skills in the field of space missions and the analysis of satellite data in the scientific and application fields.
The Space missions science, design and applications program at University of Bologna aims to provide professional scientific-technical competencies that start from the knowledge acquired at graduate level, enriching it consistently and filling the inevitable gaps.
The course will train qualified candidates in the fundamental aspects of a space mission, and teach them the competencies necessary to be able to enter the job market in a competitive way, both nationally and internationally.
This programme will provide participants with expertise in three main areas needed to succeed in today’s competitive space economy:
- the scientific background for which space missions represent essential investigative tools (e.g. astrophysics, geophysics, atmosphere physics, oceanography, planetology and astrobiology);
- the fundamentals of designing, developing and executing a space mission throughout its lifecycle with a focus on its scientific objectives and various subsystem requirements and functionalities;
- the analysis of data obtained from satellites and their main scientific and industrial applications, both at national and international levels (e.g. the exploration of space and the solar system, meteorology, oceanographic and geophysical studies, land monitoring, and the optimization of agriculture).

- Second cycle degree or single cycle degree obtained pursuant to Ministerial Decree 270/04 (or second cycle or single cycle degrees possibly awarded pursuant to the previous regulations Ministerial Decree 509/99 and the Old Regulations) in the related fields specified on the programs page
- Second / single cycle degree obtained abroad deemed equivalent to those described in point above by the admission committee, for the purposes of admission to the Master.
- Other master's degrees may be considered by the selection commission depending on the candidate's curriculum and specific skills.
