The students are instructed to work independently according to the scientific methods and principles of computer science (with a focus on cognitive, intelligent and interactive systems) and, depending on their specialization, other relevant disciplines (robotics, linguistics, biology, psychology, medicine). 

In addition to imparting knowledge, the Intelligent Interactive Systems program at Bielefeld University also explicitly focuses on imparting increasingly important interdisciplinary skills as well as practical, professionally qualifying knowledge and skills.

The "Intelligent Interactive Systems" degree program covers the great need for computer scientists with interdisciplinary training in the field of intelligent technical systems. Wherever AI systems, robots or other autonomous information systems are developed in the course of digitalization and used as intelligent assistants, computer scientists with a background in the interface area of ​​intelligent systems / artificial intelligence and interactive systems / human-technology interaction are urgently needed and have excellent career prospects.

Possible career fields include, for example, the development departments of mechanical engineering, for production plants (Industry 4.0), the automotive and media industries, and in all areas of software development for digitized education, medicine, insurance or the public sector.
