Overview
The Advanced Migration Studies at the University of Copenhagen is an ambitious, English-language degree in migration studies. Based at an active research centre, it combines teaching, research, and a strong practice dimension, including internship possibilities. We emphasise student participation and engagement through events, workshops, and an annual student conference. A close supervision system ensures students receive personalised guidance throughout the master thesis process.
Migration is both one of the most politically contentious and widely misrepresented topics today. Our programme promotes a critical, reflexive and historically situated approach to migration. We question preconceptions and methodological presentism, while encouraging an empirically-based, historically situated understanding of migration as an everyday practice of mobility that affects us all, whether we move anywhere or not.
Career Opportunties
Upon completion of the master’s programme, you will obtain the title Master of Arts in Advanced Migration Studies.
The Master’s programme in Advanced Migration Studies offers a range of career opportunities. It qualifies for a career in political institutions concerned with immigration and integration policies at the national and supranational levels as well as in local government.
Graduates may also work with local, national and international NGOs that advocate for the rights of migrants and refugees, as well as for unions and civil society organisations that work in spaces shaped by migration (e.g. labour markets, housing).
