Overview
The curriculum in Smart Cities and Communities programme at University of Vaasa focuses on the pillars of sustainable urban development, namely energy, transportation, buildings, urban planning, and information and communication technology as central enablers in implementing sustainable solutions.
Key facts
Professionals mastering these aspects are urgently needed to accompany the sustainable and smart transition of our cities, through the massive deployment of multi-sector renewable energy communities in urban and peri-urban areas.
University of Vaasa offers this joint programme a multidisciplinary Smart Grid Solutions study module which is worth 30 ECTS credits and deals with smart energy solutions and combining new technologies and business models. The extended Erasmus Mundus consortium includes partners from all over the world, including research institutions, companies (large, medium, small) and universities. They provide students with valuable research traineeships, supervision, and work experience in aspects close to the needs of employers.
Smart Cities and Communities is taught in English. The duration of studies is 2 years (120 ECTS credits) which means four terms in three different countries. The other universities besides the University of Vaasa are the University of Mons in Belgium, International Hellenic University in Greece, and University of the Basque Country in Spain. There is a tuition fee, but several full and partial scholarships will be available.
