Overview
The Community Specialist Practitioner - District Nursing programme from Leeds Beckett University will prepare you to use your discretion and judgement to make high-level clinical decisions in the management and provision of quality care.
You will learn how to apply your theoretical grounding and practical experience in line with the NMC's core standards for safe and effective specialist practice, including clinical practice, care and programme management, clinical practice leadership and clinical practice development. Your clinical placements will develop your practice as an effective district nurse, and they will also enable you to build a network of contacts that will enhance your career options.
Career
Upon graduation, you will be able to record your qualification with the NMC as a specialist practitioner, district nurse. You will also be qualified to work in specialist community nursing roles, such as palliative care nursing. After graduating, you could also work towards our MSc Health & Community Care by completing a dissertation.

General requirements
- Applicants should have NMC first level registration (previously known as UKCC parts 1, 2, 7 or 12), at least a second class honours degree in the cognate subject of Health and be able to evidence recent professional development. Applicants who do not meet this academic requirement are advised to undertake the Professional Profile Development module in order to apply for recognition of prior (experiential) learning.
- Applicants will also need to secure a suitable practice placement in order to undertake the course. Applicants need to have consolidated their pre-registration nursing outcomes and to have gained a deeper understanding in relevant professional practice
- All applications should be supported by two references, either academic or professional; you can download our reference template for completion, please note references should be accompanied by a covering letter on headed paper or emailed directly by the referee.
