Overview
This Product Development - Specialisation in Assistive Technology (MASTech) for Prosthetist-Orthotists programme from Jönköping University focuses on innovative product development of assistive devices for individuals with disabilities. It requires a combination of medical and engineering knowledge. As such, the programme is open to students with backgrounds in prosthetics and orthotics or mechanical engineering.
Students will link theory to industrial practice by completing several projects addressing problems identified by industry partners, and by doing an industrial placement. They also will have a close collaboration with users of assistive technologies as well as companies involved in the manufacture and supply of assistive devices.
Graduates leave the programme prepared for a career within the assistive technology sector having gained the knowledge and skills related to product development, design and manufacturing.
The programme is conducted and examined in English. Each course is assessed separately using a range of assessment methods including oral presentations, reports, projects and written examinations. In a single course one of these methods, or a combination of them, may be used.
After graduation
The programme will provide knowledge and skills to work in a number of positions within the assistive technology sector, nationally and internationally. Potential areas of employment could include research and development departments of companies involved in the production of assistive technologies or production management for departments involved in the clinical provision of assistive technologies (including hospitals or private companies).
