Overview
This Biomedical Sciences with Industrial Practice programme from Abertay University will enable you to examine developments in biomedical sciences that are shaping the future of health care.
The development and implementation of in vitro diagnostics is growing in importance. As technological and practical advancements lead to the creation of more sophisticated and effective healthcare devices, care providers are moving towards a more personalised, community-based approach, away from traditional hospital-centric care.
Please note: you will be registered on the MSc Biomedical Sciences, which includes a research project. All students will get the opportunity to apply to undertake an industrial placement as an alternative to the research project. Placements, subject to availability, are on a competitive basis and are subject to an application and interview with the placement provider. If successful, you will be moved on to the MSc Biomedical Sciences with Industrial Practise.
Alongside core biomedical principles – including pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics – our MSc Biomedical Sciences with Industrial Practise allows you to customise your learning experience. Choose between focusing on:
The principles of designing and executing experiments in healthcare applications such as diagnostics and pharmaceuticals.
The principles of implementing and monitoring near-patient testing devices.
You’ll receive practical training, equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and understanding of quality processes needed for the design, development and use of healthcare products.
Career opportunities:
As a graduate of this programme, you'll have the knowledge and skills to enter healthcare sectors around the world as a point of care specialist. This could be with private industry including point of care manufacturers focusing on device development, or with service providers focused on implementation - including the NHS.
