Overview
The future of food systems is becoming more uncertain with the ever-increasing challenges of climate change, conflict, finite resources, and global inequality. Managing food security is an extremely complex issue and one that requires a multi-disciplinary approach.
The MS in Food Security at American University of Beirut provides students with a foundation of knowledge in the core areas of food security - availability, accessibility, utilization, stability, sustainability, and agency - drawing on faculty expertise in agriculture, natural resource management, nutrition, and more.
The program is the first academic degree program to address the global concern of food security with a grounding in the Middle East and North Africa region. It aims to educate a new generation of leaders to address vital issues of food insecurity, hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. Coursework, seminars, and research activities challenge students to refine and apply their analytical skills with a focus on the responsible application of gained knowledge.
