Economists play a key role in shaping the future – from analyzing financial markets to advising governments and businesses. Our Master’s Programme in Economics provides a solid foundation in economic theory, data analysis, and policy evaluation, with a strong emphasis on real-world applications and sustainability.The Economics at the University of Vaasa focuses especially on competence in the following areas:Understanding and analysing the operations of banks and insurance companies

Our teaching is research-driven: all economics lecturers are active researchers in our dedicated research group, focusing on financial literacy, sustainable growth, and global financial markets. We collaborate closely with institutions like the Bank of Finland and the Ministry of Finance, and students benefit from guest lectures, excursions to key European economic hubs, and a specialized course on macroprudential policy and financial stability.The programme also supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 8, 9, 10 and 13), helping students understand the economic mechanisms behind inclusive growth and sustainable development. You’ll explore how human capital, R&D, and innovation drive long-term prosperity, and how economic policies can reduce inequality and promote resilience.
