Overview
The Engineering Mechanics programme from KTH Royal Institute of Technology covers theory, numerical methods and experimental techniques related to fluid mechanics, solid mechanics and sound and vibration. The curriculum is developed with strong involvement from industry and heavily influenced by the latest research. An important goal for the programme is to educate students that are well-prepared for advanced industrial problem-solving in both large and small international enterprises as well as in research.
The programme offers three tracks: Fluid Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, and Sound and Vibration. Only one-third of the courses are mandatory, which means that the students have many possibilities to tailor the course structure to meet their interests. During the first three semesters, theoretical courses are mixed with more applied project-based courses.
The courses typically contain experimental and numerical laboratories, and students will gain proficiency in up-to-date experimental methods and software. In the courses, the students will be given many opportunities to interact with prominent researchers at KTH and companies such as the world-leading truck manufacturer Scania, and the train and aircraft giant Bombardier.
Career
Students who graduate from the master's programme in Engineering Mechanics will be proficient in fluid mechanics, solid mechanics and sound and vibration, areas that are linked with a multitude of industries. Graduates will find a wide range of job opportunities in research and development within industry, consulting and research, not only in mechanical engineering but also in other engineering fields.
