Overview
The Environmental Sciences program at the University of Pannonia aims to train environmental scientists with a high level of foundational knowledge and practical experience across the disciplines required for the creative and multidisciplinary practice of environmental science. The program equips students with a broad range of widely applicable and versatile skills, strong scientific literacy, and a modern natural science approach, preparing them to meet society’s needs in environmental management and planning and to continue their studies at the doctoral level.
Special courses focus on developing skills in science communication and supporting students in selecting and defining their thesis topics. Core courses emphasize instrumental material analysis and related laboratory techniques, complemented by a summer field course that provides hands-on experience and skills that are highly valued in the labour market.
Students may choose between two specializations: Atmospheric Environment or Limnology. In both tracks, students typically conduct independent research under the guidance of a faculty member. To further develop a researcher’s mindset, students participate in scientific conferences and take part in the academic and social life of the departments involved in the program.

Curriculum Overview – Environmental Science B.Sc.
The programme is structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in environmental science, ensuring students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to understand, analyse, and address complex environmental challenges. The curriculum is divided into four main modules in line with academic and output requirements:
1. Basic Courses: Students build a solid grounding in the fundamental sciences, including applied mathematics, physics, and the chemistry of geospheres. Courses also cover global and regional environmental changes and applied ecology, providing the essential scientific understanding needed for advanced study.
2. Core Courses: The core curriculum equips students with practical and analytical skills. Subjects include environmental sampling and techniques for environmental analysis, materials in the environment, and types of pollution. Students also study the interplay between the environment and society, exploring legal, economic, communication, and financial aspects. Field practice complements theoretical knowledge, allowing hands-on experience in real-world environmental settings.
3. Specialized Courses: Students choose a specialization to deepen expertise in a particular area. Options include Atmospheric Environment, focusing on air quality and atmospheric processes, and Limnology, concentrating on the study of freshwater ecosystems and their management.
4. Thesis: The programme culminates in an independent research project (thesis), allowing students to apply their theoretical knowledge and practical skills to a real-world environmental problem, demonstrating critical thinking, data analysis, and scientific communication.
This structured approach ensures graduates are well-prepared for careers in environmental research, consulting, management, and policy, or for continuing studies at the Master’s level.
