History
The Faculty of Tourism, a member of the University of Maribor, was established in December 2009 and is based in Brežice, Slovenia. English-taught study programs are offered at the remote unit in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, at the Student Campus. The first students enrolled at the Faculty of Tourism in the 2012/2013 academic year, with the first graduates completing their theses in 2015.
Education
The Faculty currently offers four study programs: professional, academic, master’s, and, since 2022, a PhD program. The professional, masters and PhD programmes are also conducted in English. These up-to-date, high-quality programs are led by internationally recognized experts and lecturers with extensive experience in tourism.
Research
Students are intensively involved in research at all levels of study, gaining valuable insight into research and development work. Student research is integrated into the study process and is further enriched through participation in various research, development, and marketing projects, as well as through fieldwork, surveys, co-authoring publications, articles and other related activities.
Career
During their education, students connect with industry, business, and tourism organizations through practical training, project work, field assignments, and industry partnerships. This hands-on approach, enriched by guest lectures and real-world projects, builds their professional networks and prepares them for tourism careers. Graduates gain valuable skills and connections, making them highly employable. Expected employment opportunities include tourism companies, tourism suppliers, public administration in tourism, regional and local tourism organizations, self-employment in tourism, tourism planning and development, travel agencies, and research and development centres.

The FT UM Student Affairs Office offers students information on enrolment, studies, timetables, exam regulations, graduation, and other common matters. For students of English language programmes, Ms. Klara Pinteric, who is also responsible for international students, is the primary contact person.
ICT services
The University of Maribor provides students with a uniform digital identity, which consists of their username (= University-issued email account) and password. Using it, students may access a powerful ecosystem of IT tools and solutions, such as the e-learning environment Moodle, the exam platform AIPS and many more.
