History
A self-educated "working boy" who loved books, Andrew Carnegie emigrated from Scotland in 1848 and settled in Pittsburgh, Pa. Attending night school and borrowing books, Carnegie went from factory worker in a textile mill to successful entrepreneur and industrialist. He rose to prominence by founding what became the world's largest steel producing company by the end of the 19th century.
Education

Great but limited social scene
It was a great school with very smart and ambitious students. There's always a lot of energy to do something new innovative. Students like to collaborate in interdisciplinary activities. I did feel like the social scene was a bit low.
Carnegie Mellon University
CMU is on of the leading universities of US, a lot of great professors and many opportunities to learn and grow within your field and outside. I got to learn a lot about entrepreneurship and was able to become a CSL fellow. It think this helped me explore how startups are founded, funded and grown. I got to meet many industry experts like CEO of Gecko Robotics ( a CMU alum). My course helped me pivot my carrier from software dev to UXR. So, overall I am really happy with how my academic experience turned out at CMU.
Disappointing social life
It's nice for me but the social life here definitely leaves something to be desired. I've also had a hard time here being a black, queer woman just in terms of finding people I can relate to. But academically, this place is fantastic and it's small which I also love.

- Carnegie Mellon’s housing communities provide students with opportunities to enhance their personal growth and development as they progress through their college years. Campus life
At its Silicon Valley location, CMU's College of Engineering can integrate the rich heritage and resources of the Pittsburgh campus with the opportunities available in the dynamic Silicon Valley business environment. For more than a decade, we've worked with partners in the San Francisco Bay Area to establish a natural extension for the university's acclaimed graduate degree programs, innovative research, and support for entrepreneurs.
Sports facilities
The Carnegie Mellon University campus community has a central gathering place in the Jared L. Cohon University Center. The Cohon Center contains numerous facilities for athletics, assemblies and dining as well as lounge and retail areas. It also includes space for student organizations and activities. The Cohon Center opened in 1996 and is the home of the varsity swimming and diving team.
Student clubs
We are pleased to launch the new Office of Student Leadership, Involvement, and Civic Engagement, which we fondly refer to as SLICE. The creation of this new department brings together three teams, Student Activities, Greek Life, and Civic Engagement, in an effort to create a more holistic metacurricular experience for our undergraduate and graduate students.
