History
In 1870, Bishop George M. Randall opened the Jarvis Hall Collegiate School in a building just south of the town of Golden. In 1873, Mines opened under the auspices of the Episcopal Church and in 1874 the School of Mines became a territorial institution and has been a state institution since 1876 when Colorado attained statehood.

Research
Research at the Colorado School of Mines has always been inspired by the changing needs of society and has driven the creation of new technologies to address those needs.
Because of our historical roots in gold and silver mining, Mines is widely known for our geological and earth resource-related work, but the reality today is far greater.

No matter where your interests lie, the Career Advisors are equipped to help you look at different career paths through exploration and evaluation of your interests, strengths, values, and skills assessment and advisement.
Each September and February, the Career Center sponsors a career fair, open to all students. Recruiters talk about their organizations, projects, and discuss internships, co-ops, as well as full-time career opportunities.

It's a good university you get many things to learn about the educators are well mannered I would encourage more students to enrol there. their fees are not too much overall I had an awesome experience there

As a part of the Division of Student Life, the Department of Residence Life plays an integral role in our students’ education and development. Library services
The Arthur Lakes Library is the collaborative partner and intellectual nexus that bridges disciplines and communities across the Mines campus.
We foster a rich and responsive information environment that empowers learning, discovery, critical thinking, and knowledge creation for Mines and a sustainable global society.
ICT services
The purpose of the information infrastructure at Mines is to support and promote the scholarship of students and faculty. The role of Information & Technology Solutions (ITS) is to fulfill this mission through effective design, implementation, delivery, support, and use of computing and networking resources.
Medical services
The Coulter Student Health Center is located at 1770 Elm Street, across from Elm Hall and next to the Intramurals (IM) fields. It is staffed by nurse practitioners and registered nurses throughout the day. Open to all Mines students regardless of insurance coverage.

Located in the scenic foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the City of Golden provides a welcoming and diverse setting for the Mines community to enjoy. There are about a dozen major ski areas within a one- to three-hour drive from campus, and downtown Denver and Boulder are within 20 miles of Mines, offering all the recreational opportunities of a vibrant, metropolitan area.
In addition to 18 NCAA Division II athletic teams, Mines offers 18 competitive clubs, intramurals (over 550 teams in 2016-2017), a state-of-the-art recreation center and an outdoor recreation center with a wide range of outdoor equipment to rent, and one of the nation’s best combinations of facilities with the Clear Creek Athletics Complex.
Student clubs
At Mines, there are countless ways to get involved including the Mines Activities Council (our programming board), 12 Greek Chapters (7 fraternities, 4 sororities, and one culturally based fraternity), and over 220 registered student organizations! You can make friends, develop your leadership and life skills, put your skills to work outside the classroom, work on meaningful projects, advocate for your peers and have fun.

Colorado School of Mines is accredited through the doctoral degree by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association (NCA).
