Political Science
The Political Science program at the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF), offered in partnership with Bard College, provides a unique dual-degree experience that combines the strengths of both institutions. This collaboration allows students to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and International Studies from Bard College while simultaneously pursuing their degree at AUAF. This dual-degree structure equips students with a rich academic foundation and a global perspective that opens doors to a wide range of career opportunities in politics, diplomacy, international relations, and public policy. One of the standout features of this dual-degree program is the rigorous, interdisciplinary curriculum that emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. At AUAF, students are exposed to key political concepts, governance structures, and Afghan and regional politics. Meanwhile, Bard College's liberal arts tradition enhances this learning with a broader global context, fostering a holistic understanding of political systems, human rights, international law, and comparative politics. The dual-degree programs emphasis on critical thinking and problem-solving is designed to help students become effective leaders, policymakers, and diplomats. Courses in political theory, global governance, and international relations challenge students to analyze complex political systems and global issues, such as conflict resolution, democracy-building, and global justice. In addition to the academic rigor, the program offers experiential learning opportunities that allow students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. Through internships with international organizations, embassies, government agencies, and NGOs, students gain hands-on experience in policymaking, advocacy, and diplomacy. This practical experience is crucial for developing a deep understanding of political processes and for building a network of professional contacts. The dual-degree program is supported by a diverse and experienced faculty from both AUAF and Bard College, who bring a wealth of expertise in global politics, governance, and international relations. This faculty collaboration ensures that students benefit from a wide range of perspectives, engaging in meaningful discussions and debates that broaden their understanding of global political dynamics. Moreover, the programs global reach is enhanced by Bard Colleges network of international campuses and partners. This allows AUAF students to access global study opportunities, attend international conferences, and participate in research projects with students from around the world. The combination of AUAF's focus on regional political issues and Bards global outlook provides students with a unique perspective that is valuable in todays interconnected world.
