History
- By the 1960’s, MEPhI became the leading higher education institution in Russia, providing education and training for peaceful nuclear energy. Over the course of its history, six Nobel Prize winners have worked at MEPhI, including: N.G. Basov, a MEPhI graduate, A.D. Sakharov, N.N. Semenov, I.E. Tamm, I.M. Frank, and P.A. Cherenkov.
Education
- The MEPhI provides over 100 educational programmes in more than 25 areas of Bachelor, Magister and Specialist training. Over 75% of the university professors hold a doctorate or a candidate degree.
- National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” implements postgraduate professional education curricula (PhD and postdoctoral level), carries out fundamental and applied scientific research in high-priority fields of science and technologies.
Research
Strategic Academic Units become the main structure element of the University combining the educational system, scientific and innovative activities, including:

One of the best in Russia
The main advantage of my university is the wide range of activities and courses available, so a student can get valuable experience in almost every field they want, from linguistics or astronomy to the biology of cancer. MEPhI has many partners in Russia and abroad, so it provides effective cooperation in terms of exchange of knowledge.

- MEPhI Student Office includes a co-working space with a meeting area and a one-stop service that will gradually provide all physical copies of digital documents as needed.
Housing services
- All international students and federal budget-subsidized students are entitled to a place at one of MEPhI dormitories. Currently the university has 7 dormitory buildings.
Library services
The center of Informational and Library Support of the teaching and research activities of MEPhI is one of the largest university library centers in Russia with modern technical equipment and well-organized services, including:
- a unique collection of books on the natural sciences and other fields of knowledge (1 million copies.)
- a collection of rare and valuable books
Sports facilities
- The Department of Physical Education carries out educational, training, health-improving, educational and sports work with university students.
- The Department Head is Vyacheslav Starshinov – two-time Olympic champion, nine-time World champion, eight-time European champion, honored master of sports, candidate of pedagogical sciences, professor, academician of the International Academy of Creativity.
Student clubs
- Student Research Society is an association aimed at creating a single platform for horizontal communication between students, teachers, researchers and the university administration. The Student Research Society brings together students who are passionate about innovations and modern research trends and who are willing to sharing research ideas with everyone.
- The Student Research Society includes associations EcoMEPhI (ecological student community for those who are not indifferent to MEPhI activities in the direction of sustainable development) and Club for Intellectual Game “What? Where? When?” (a popular intellectual game in which a team of experts brainstorms the answers to questions within a minute).
