History
- It was founded in 1946. In 1960, it was listed as national key university; In 1984, it was one of the 22 universities initially granted the permission to admit postgraduates; In 1995, approved by State Education Commission of China, it was granted as one of the first "Project 211" universities; In 2001, Jilin University was listed as one of “Project 985” key construction universities; In 2004.
Education
- Jilin University offers a wide range of disciplines, including 50 colleges or schools, covering 12 academic categories, namely, philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medical science, management, and art. Among them, 11 disciplines, namely archaeology, mathematics, physics, chemistry, materials science and engineering, philosophy, law, mechanical and bionic engineering, electronic science and technology, geological resources and engineering, and one health are selected as “Double First-class” constructing disciplines according to the list released by Ministry of Education.

- Our university is now home to five state key labs, 1 national engineering laboratories, 6 national-local joint laboratories, 1 national engineering and technology research center, 1 national animal experimental center, 4 international science and technology cooperation bases, 6 humanities and social science key research bases of the Ministry of Education, 12 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 5 engineering research center of the Ministry of Education, 1 joint laboratory of international cooperation of the Ministry of Education, 2 joint collaborative innovation centers, 1 field science observation station of the Ministry of Education, and 19 key laboratories of other ministries of China.

Adequate Knowledge and Undesirable Dormitory
Overall okay uni in the range of Chinese universities, providing students with both adequate access to knowledge and relevant education. Taking the really-low dorm fee into consideration, it shouldn't be blamed that environment in dormitory isn't good. However, constant electrical failures, no air-con during scorching hot summer( which is said to be solved until 2027) and regular water cut-down do bother me a lot. In one word, if you're an exchange student, think before coming; if you're a Chinese student, Jilin University still means quite something in terms of acknowledgement.

- The campuses in Changchun cover an area of 6.11 million square meters, with building area of 2.76 million square meters. Our university has a Zhuhai Campus, covering an area of 3.10 million square meters. There are 7.91 million books of various kinds in university library, which has been recognized by UNESCO, UNIDO and World Bank. Approved by the Ministry of Education, CALIS Northeast Center in our university is recognized as one of seven centers in China.
