History
The University of Liechtenstein was established in 1961 through the initiative of business and the State under the name “Abendtechnikum Vaduz”. It is funded by the State and various business organisations. Over the years, the institution has developed from a university of applied sciences to a university in 2011.
Education
The University of Liechtenstein acts as an innovation centre for shaping the future. In numerous projects and programs, it provides impetus for the economy, politics, and society.
800 students from 40 nations. One of the best student-tutor-ratios in Europe. 30 instead of 300 fellow students with you in class. These are just a few facts about the University of Liechtenstein. And even more importantly, we are an innovative thinking space for business and architecture in the heart of Europe. Here, you study in accordance with Swiss and international quality standards. Research
Research at the University of Liechtenstein is conducted with the objective to acquire knowledge, which gets transferred for the benefit of business and societal development. The institutes conduct research within four selected focus areas. Research projects, which receive support from national and international research funding institutions, focus on areas with a high degree of relevance for Liechtenstein and the region. The scientific utilisation of newly acquired knowledge happens through publications in scientific books and journals. Research funding is of key importance in the support given to the younger generation of academics.
Career
The career service job exchange offers a variety of job opportunities (internships, entry level, etc.) for students in Liechtenstein, the region and worldwide. In order to support students optimally in their career planning, career service offers workshops and individual career coaching with experienced consultants. In addition, we provide assistance to students with questions about formal requirements and regulations regarding employment in Liechtenstein and many other topics.
On top we have a "Career Day Finance” that serves as a platform for companies from the financial services sector and students - for getting to know each other personally and exchanging ideas.

Close-knit, personal, abundant opportunities
Having completed my bachelor's degree at a very large university, I cherished the tight-knit community of University of Liechtenstein. The vast majority of my classes had less than 20 students, and the teaching style was very interactive and personal. Professors genuinely care for their students and our interests. The teaching style is very interactive -- rather than just lecturing, the professors ask for our professional work experiences and apply our real-life examples to their lecture points. Despite being a small university, the Rhine Valley location allows for abundant job opportunities. Students are encouraged to work alongside their studies, and the university offers many opportunities to connect with companies based in the region through both career fairs and course collaboration. I would recommend this university to any student who wants a small, personalized study experience and who wants to work alongside their studies.
Information Systems in the UniLi
The PhD program in Information Systems stands out for its exceptional blend of academic rigor and personal touch. From the onset, the program fosters a deep connection between professors and students, ensuring that each PhD candidate receives individualized guidance and support throughout their journey. We care about the fun part...
- The SPINNEREI is the student's office of the University of Liechtenstein, responsible for fun events, sports and campus life. We organize a variety of events during the semester, we run the weekly Red Cube Bar and we work with other students initiatives.

Housing services
The University of Liechtenstein assists students when looking for a place to stay in Liechtenstein. Additionally, we provide relevant information regarding living in Liechtenstein and its surrounding countries. Apart from our own student dormitory, we offer students a platform to look for private rooms and flats in Liechtenstein. Additionally, there is a facebook group where students can look for flatmates or shared appartments. The new student dormitory is placed very near to the university in the Fürst-Franz-Josef-Strasse 15-17, 9490 Vaduz Liechtenstein.
Library services
The library of the University of Liechtenstein is open to students, academic staff and the public. It is the university`s heart for literature research and offers expert knowledge, information and research support services for teaching, further education and research.
Collection focus is on Economics, Law and Architecture, spatial planning and construction engineering.
Campus life
Liechtenstein is the fourth smallest state in Europe and is located in the center of the European Alpine arc, between Switzerland and Austria. Liechtenstein is the sixth smallest state in the world. There are about 38,000 inhabitants in 11 municipalities. The capital is Vaduz. The university is also located here. The campus, located above Vaduz at the site of the former Spoerry cotton mill, is easily reached by public and private transportation. Everything in the country is easy to reach, and if you get the city fever, Milan and Munich are only a good 2 hours drive away.
Sports facilities
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we are finally able to offer you a (smaller) sports programme in person again. We will kick it off with Yoga, Strala-Yoga, Calisthenics & Freeletics. Please respect and follow all safety measures and bring your own mats! We hope to gradually reintroduce our regular sports programme but have to proceed very very cautiously. Nomally we have volleyball, football and other teamsports….!
Student clubs
The University of Liechtenstein has a large number of student organizations and associations. We are always interested in new members and motivated students who would like to participate or help at events. (AIESEC, Buddyprogramm, Club Alpbach, Data Science Club, Erasmus Student Network Liechtenstein, Finance Club, foraus - Forum Aussenpolitik, Landsmannschaft Invictus zu Vaduz, JCI - Junior Chamber International Liechtenstein Werdenberg, Rotaract, START Vaduz, Toastmasters, Unichor….)
Accreditation
Since December 2012, the Faculty of Business Administration is a member of AACSB, the premier global management education network, and has received the prestigious AACSB accreditation in 2023.
Already in April 2010, the Swiss Center of Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education (OAQ) certified that the University of Liechtenstein fulfils the Swiss criteria for quality in Higher education.
