History
SISSA – Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati – was founded in 1978 and is a scientific center of excellence within the national and international academic scene.
Education
SISSA’s activities focus on three main areas: Physics, Neuroscience and Mathematics. Moreover, the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Advanced Studies works at the interface between science, humanities and the public.
Research
The research projects are coordinated by internationally renowned scientists. Some members of the School have received honoris causa degrees in prestigious universities, they were given important prizes or are members of leading scientific academies. SISSA scientists obtain each year substantial international and Italian grants. In particular, SISSA ranks in the highest positions among the Italian scientific institutions in terms of awarded ERC grants, especially when considering the small faculty size. The School has received 24 projects since the foundation of the European Research Council in 2007; more than 20% of the current faculty memebrs has received one or more ERC grants.

I love the ambience, I love the structures, I love their food and their culture
Strong IT Foundation, Need More Practical Skills
I would rate my overall study experience as satisfying. The architectural engineering program at the Higher Institute of Applied Science and Technology is comprehensive, equipping me to work in various IT specialties. I have explored a wide range of subjects, including programming languages, web and mobile development, database management, and CI/CD practices. Currently, the curriculum includes advanced topics such as DevOps, Big Data, Computer Vision, and AI. What I appreciate most about the program is the depth of knowledge and the strong theoretical foundation it provides, preparing us to tackle engineering challenges effectively. The diversity of courses allows me to understand multiple areas within the IT field, enhancing my versatility. However, I feel there should be an improvement in the practical application of the concepts we learn. While the theoretical knowledge is essential, more hands-on experience would greatly benefit students, helping us bridge the gap between theory and real-world implementation. This additional focus on practical skills would ensure we are better prepared for our future careers.
preparetion for a career on technology
The Higher Institute of Applied Science and Technology of Mateur (IHEC) offers a solid engineering education with a focus on embedded systems and the Internet of Things. The curriculum is comprehensive, blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills. The faculty is experienced and supportive, and the facilities are well-equipped for hands-on learning. Being involved in the IEEE RAS chapter has enriched my experience, and the university’s industry connections have provided valuable internship opportunities. Overall, it’s a great place to prepare for a career in technology.

Sports facilities
The gym is situated in the middle of the park, and is available to SISSA students and staff. It is located in a bright and welcoming building, where users can avail themselves of a wide range of fitness equipment and machines, and a broad schedule of gym courses. The timetable has been arranged in order to not interfere with the activity in the School.
