History
Western University of Health Sciences embarked on a special mission when it opened its doors in 1977 as the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP): educating tomorrow’s health care professionals with a combination of scientific excellence and a humanistic, compassionate approach to patient care.
Education
The University is a teaching, learning community, one in which knowledge is applied to an end—the health and well-being of our fellow citizens. President Pumerantz has assembled an outstanding group of academic leaders and faculty to carry the work of the university forward.
Research
The overall goal of the Office of SVP-Research and Biotechnology is to build distinctive profile at WesternU through the pursuit of excellence in research and innovation, excellence in health sciences undergraduate and graduate academic programs and the continued development of interdisciplinary research and training initiatives within and between the Colleges at WesternU and other schools/colleges in the neighborhood in Southern California.
Career
- The Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) exists to provide WesternU COMP/COMP-Northwest students with a support network to connect them to their larger career goals. We provide support at all levels of the four year curriculum to maintain our high rate of residency match during 4th year.

Student services
We specialize in six main topics that support students through their academic journey here at WesternU. The six main areas include: a) one-on-one academic counseling, b) tutoring, c) the annual Summer Preparedness and Readiness Course (SPaRC), d) the Wellbeing Initiative, e) LEAD CALM – Mindfulness Meditation Training & Practice, and f) various workshops relevant to student life. All LEAD services are free of charge to the WesternU community and all services are completely confidential.
Housing services
The Daumier at Western University of Health Sciences is located adjacent to WesternU’s campus and the following is provided by its owner: The Daumier is the unique housing option for WesternU students. The Daumier, owned and operated by a non-profit, is not just any apartment near campus but designed to be a community for WesternU students. In short, the Daumier has been designed specifically with you in mind.
Library services
The Harriet K. and Philip Pumerantz Library and Learning Resource Center symbolizes WesternU’s commitment to the values of learning and research for both students and faculty. Our Mission is to support excellence in education, research, and clinical activities of Western University of Health Sciences through the provision of information resources.
ICT services
The University IT Department goal is to leverage technology to solve problems and increase the efficiency of academic and business processes. We provide consultation to faculty, staff and students on the best uses of existing university technologies, and recommend the acquisition and integration of new technologies as needed to address academic and business needs.
Medical services
The Patient Care Center at Western University of Health Sciences is a place where the best in collaborative health care services is offered while putting WesternU’s core values of humanism, science and caring into practice every day. The Patient Care Center was designed to showcase seven specific care centers which will lead you toward Optimum Health and Wellness.
Campus life
The University campuses have an extensive electronic and mechanical security network, emergency phones and fire management systems that are centrally monitored, with radio control systems to initiate security responses. The uniformed security staff (Patrol) are supported by key, lock, access control, and alarm specialists, building attendant services, traffic control devices, and a diversity of other systems designed to minimize risk and support a safe and comfortable environment.

You have two fitness benefit options to choose from! Only one option per student and benefits are evaluated annually and are subject to change.
