History
The campaign to locate Delta State in Cleveland began several years before the doors opened for the first summer session in 1925. There is evidence that the subject was brought up for discussion as early as 1910. Senator Roberts would eventually take the idea all the way to the State House floor. Ultimately, the efforts of many people would lead to the start of a new institution.
Education
All Delta State University academic programs, academic policies and academic units are under the leadership of the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Office of Academic Affairs is committed to providing the highest quality of education possible and support for all students to progress and graduate.
Research
Although Delta State University is primarily a teaching institution, we, as an academic community, recognize the importance of scholarship as a partner to effective teaching. Moreover, good teaching is largely influenced by the ability of faculty to remain current in their disciplines. Therefore, research and faculty & staff development are important, not only for professional development but as links to students. Take advantage of the opportunities provided by the University so we can best accomplish our university mission. Our students will be the beneficiaries.

Supportive community college
It's a good place to get your pre-requisites and AA. The professors are awesome. I came here after I was not able to complete my education at a 4 year university and was so defeated. I was able to get my academic record on track and refocus myself. A lot of the professors were supportive and helpful. They always got back to you and were able to help with any questions or concerns with classes or assignments. I got a lot of support from the administration and I really felt as if I can succeed with the proper guidance and staff that's willing to help.

As a final-year Biochemistry student, my journey so far has been a mix of academic rigor, personal growth, and hands-on learning. The programme provides a strong foundation in core areas such as molecular biology, enzymology, and metabolic processes. The lecturers are one of the major highlights � they are knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely committed to student success. They explain complex concepts with clarity and are always willing to assist outside the classroom. One of the aspects I�ve enjoyed the most is the laboratory work. Practical sessions have deepened my understanding of theoretical concepts and sparked a real interest in scientific research. These experiences have also improved my analytical and problem-solving skills, which I know will be valuable in the future. Despite a few challenges, such as limited access to advanced laboratory equipment and occasional delays in practical sessions, the overall learning environment is encouraging and intellectually stimulating. The programme has pushed me to grow academically and has prepared me well for both further studies and career opportunities in the scientific field. I would definitely recommend this programme to anyone passionate about science and looking to build a solid career in biochemistry or related disciplines.

We offer a consultation service called “Reference by Appointment.” This service is open to Delta State University faculty, staff, or students who need assistance identifying and using print and electronic resources available in Roberts-LaForge Library. DSU Students, Faculty and Staff are provided access to the wireless network OKRAnet. OKRAnet is our enterprise-grade wireless network that requires authentication using a username and password to connect. Sports facilities
Okra Kard holders have access to all of the Forest E. Wyatt Center Facilities. These include the natatorium, fitness center, basketball gym, racquetball courts, and tennis courts.Community members may also purchase an Okra Kard to use these facilities. There is a range of membership fees and packages to choose from, and may be purchased at the Student Business Services office in Kent Wyatt Hall.
