History
The Institute of Higher Technology constituting the foundation of EMU is established in 1979. The Institute of Higher Technology starts providing education with the Departments of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering offering 3-year programmes.
Education
EMU has been offering quality education through 105 undergraduate and school programmes and 108 postgraduate and doctoral degree programmes provided by 12 faculties, 3 schools and Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School.
Research
A wide range of graduate programmes leading to Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees are offered coordinated and administered by the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research at EMU. These programmes are hosted and managed by the departments in the faculties and schools of the university. The Institute is responsible for overseeing, processing and coordinating matters concerning graduate admissions, assistantships, thesis proposals and defences, supervisions, and examinations, subject to the by-laws of the University and the regulations lay down by the University Senate.

Mechatronics in TRNC
Studying mechatronics at EMU in TRNC has been great. The programme combines solid engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience in control systems, robotics, and electronics and modern laboratories for application practice. The diverse academic environment lets you explore the full range of the course across mechanical, electrical, design, and IT disciplines, enabling you to settle on the most suitable and preferred career path after graduation. The city is a very safe place with welcoming people, even across language barriers.
“EMU: Overhyped or Underrated?”
EMU felt like a university that promises more than it consistently delivers. I liked the diverse campus life, affordable tuition, and the few lecturers who were genuinely knowledgeable and supportive, but the experience heavily depended on luck — especially who taught your courses. Administration was often slow and disorganized, and the university seemed more focused on image and marketing than tightening academic standards. Overall, it can be a decent place to study if you’re self-driven and willing to push yourself, but if you expect strong structure and consistent quality, it will feel overhyped rather than impressive.
Overall campus environment
The school is good. However it's not as inclusive to international students so it's best you know the language in advance

The EMU International Promotion Office has the mission of promoting EMU and intaking international students who can meet the academic educational criteria practiced at EMU. In addition, the IPO has the mission of enhancing student exchange activities between EMU and its partner universities.
Housing services
We believe that staying in a dormitory where all types of technological, cultural and sportive facilities are offered under campus safety, will be a best start for your academic life.
This will also shorten your adaptation period to the university. Since your personal needs, like cleaning, nutrition, transportation and security will be solved in the best and fastest way, you will be free to focus on your lessons.
The library, sports complexes, cultural activity centers, computer laboratories and all other facilities on the premises of the campus will be at your disposal and within easy reach. You will carry out your education in a safe and peaceful environment, away from traffic, noise and disorder of the city.

Our library endeavors to constantly improve its performance as an active supporter and provider for the university’s effective, innovative, and student-centered approach to education.
Our library also embraces the principle of ‘aiming for the peak of quality’ and our overall objective is to become one of the best sources of information in the country and the region.
Medical services
The aim of the Health Center is to protect the physical and mental health of students and academic staff, to treat patients and especially contribute students in taking care of their mental and physical health as conscious individuals, to provide emergency and outpatient treatment services in order to reach the aims mentioned above.
Campus life
Eastern Mediterranean University works hard to provide a socially rich atmosphere for its students with the intention of supporting the extracurricular life of the students as well. Students take part in a variety of activities, and benefit from the social and cultural opportunities offered by the university and the community.
Sports facilities
Lala Mustafa Paşa (LMP) Sports Complex provides high quality sports services 7 days a week, thanks to the latest equipment located in the studios within the complex and staff members who possess expertise on the relevant area. The table tennis hall located in the complex provides free-of-charge services 7 days a week.
